COLUMBIA - Harold Warren Senior, the owner of the Warren Funeral Chapel, pleaded guilty to three felony charges of mishandling bodies at his funeral home.

Warren appeared at the Boone County courthouse Monday morning and pleaded guilty to the felony charges, including knowingly giving three families the wrong cremated remains. Charges also include unlawful merchandising practices for not refrigerating bodies and reusing coffins, among other things.

Prosecutors believe the misconduct occurred between February and July of 2008. Warren's funeral home was first investigated in 2008 after a woman's body was found stored in an electrical room for 10 months without being embalmed or refrigerated. Warren's defense attorney asked a Boone County Judge to waive prison time in exchange for a public apology from Warren. A judge is considering the request. If denied, Warren could face up to four years in prison.
