MANHATTAN, KS.- The Missouri Tigers defense was dominant against Kansas State. So effective, in fact, that the Wildcats never crossed the goal line once. KOMU8's Brandon Spiegel explains.
Missouri's offense crossed the goal line five times against Kansas State.
But it was the Tigers defense keeping the Wildcats out of the end zone that lead to the big win.
"Holding them to field goals were huge, because that ended up being the story of the game. We both had chances down there but we got touchdowns and they mostly got field goals and that started separating a little bit," said Missouri football head coach Gary Pinkel.
Missouri defense allowed 351 yards, but only 112 on the ground to a Kansas State team averaging 190 on the season.
"I think our defense came together and played all together, and as a result we shut down a good running back," said Missouri freshman defensive lineman Aldon Smith.
Missouri's defense not only kept kept Kansas State out of the endzone, they also got the take take-aways, and they turned those take take-aways into points.
"It was just a huge turnaround for us, it was a huge game for us real emotional going to the game we needed it for our program big time and we stepped up and it was the greatest feeling, greatest thing we've had all year," said Sophomore LB Will Ebner.
"Points of turnovers are huge Jerrell Harrison made a great interception at the end of the game, and that kind of put it away, so when we can score points when our defense get turnovers that big for our offensive," said Missouri QB Blaine Gabbert.
And when you are winning and getting turnovers it is more fun for everyone.
"It feels real good, real good, were as hyped as I don't know what in the locker room, we're sitting there cheering for about ten minutes," said Missouri sophomore defensive lineman Dominique Hamilton.
And when the offensive and defense are clicking, it's all smiles for the Tigers.
