MOBERLY- People say there's no such thing as a free lunch, but some people beg to differ.

A Moberly community organization is handing out hundreds of lunches for free.

"We are able to provide free lunches throughout the summer to children of Randolph County," said program coordinator Shelly Freeman.

About 58 percent of student in Moberly Public Schools qualify for free or reduced lunches during the school year.

"So that leads us to believe that nearly six in ten children actually are in need of some supplemental food program during the summer months when school is not in session," explained Freeman.

The Randolph County Caring Community Partnership is a contracted sponsor from the USDA Department of Health and Senior Services. It's serving lunch to children under 18 at 5 different locations throughout the Moberly area. Once the kids have finished their meals, they can spend time with their friends playing with toys, reading books or just watching T.V.

"I came here because I was really hungry and because it really sounded good," said Moberly child Ysabelle Drage.

The free lunches would be impossible without the area volunteers to serve lunch and clean up after. Most of the volunteers have a strong connection to the children of Moberly.

"Its just giving back to the community, and our kids are our future," explained volunteer Ronda Blakley.

The organization serves about 200 lunches a day, but it feels there are a lot more kids out there who need the free meals.
