My fascination with weather might have something to do with the fact that I was born during one of the worst ice storms in Missouri history. Actually, if you ask my parents what my feelings toward severe weather were when I was young they'd tell you I was terrified of it, yet I still had this strange yearning to learn all about it! I always had stacks of weather books around (some I had probably checked out a dozen times) and was giving weather forecasts to classes at my elementary school by the time I hit the first grade.
I grew up in Moberly and began my broadcast career when I was 15 at KWIX/KRES radio in Moberly. I switched to the print side of things and wrote for the Moberly Monitor-Index for five years and was also briefly the afternoon news and weather anchor for KMZU radio in west-central Missouri. I joined the KOMU Weather Team in 2003 and launched my series, "Journeys with Josh" in 2005. I'm going to to finish my degree in geography (with a focus in natural hazards) and minor in atmospheric science in 2006. I also am certified through the National Weather Service in severe weather radar interpretation and am a member of SKYWARN.
Whether I am anchoring severe weather coverage, covering weather-related stories, talking with students about the dangers of tornadoes, thunderstorms and flooding, or traveling around the state visiting great destinations, I love my job! I hope viewers know they can depend on us for the most accurate forecast and detailed information when our weather turns bad. I always tell viewers that forecasting for television is a job that takes 24 hours of every day, 365 days a year. Regardless of whether or not it is my shift, I'm always staying up to date on what's happening weather-wise; severe weather keeps you on-call many days of the year.
Outside of my duties here, I enjoy traveling, kayaking, reading, and great music. I have also become an avid skier and actually did my first double black last season! |
