JEFFERSON CITY - Nixon's new budget plan will cut 816 state employee positions starting this July.
Nixon says his hope is that he can make these reductions without firing people but rather through attrition. Attrition means that when employees retire or resign there will be no job applications going out for their position. Since Nixon took office in 2009 he has gotten rid of more than 4,100 positions.
For the state employees who still have a job after this reduction, they will see a 2% salary increase in January 2013. Nixon has set aside $23.6 million for this increase.
