AUDRAIN COUNTY - Donors have given more than $74,000 to help fund Audrain County's buddy pack program through the Food Bank of Central and Northeast Missouri.

The community had a chance to donate more money Friday night at the Hollywood-themed Adopt a Buddy All Star Gala.

Funding for the buddy pack program was cut last year, leaving about 240 kids in need without sufficient weekend meals.

Adopt a Buddy committee member Terry Kukuk said the gala is a great way to get people to donate.

"You donate by sponsoring tables," Kukuk said. "People are just adopting the buddies and the money is just flowing in nicely."

Attendees were encouraged to come to the event in costume and have their picture taken on the red carpet.

Some of the night's costumes included author Truman Capote, Where's Waldo, and the cast of reality TV show Duck Dynasty.

People can still donate to Adopt a Buddy if they missed the event. A donation of $180 will buy a student's weekend meals for the entire school year. People also have the option to make monthly donations.
