COLUMBIA - The autopsy is complete for the 16-year-old girl who was found dead Thursday morning at a Columbia hotel.

The Boone County Medical Examiner's office said it is waiting on the results from the toxicology screens to come back to determine the cause of death.

Columbia police said they are investigating the death of a 16-year-old girl that was found dead Thursday morning at Providence Inn and Suites Motel at the corner of Providence Road and Vandiver Drive.

Police said an unidentified man called 911 telling operators he found the girl in his room and then hung up.

Columbia Police Sgt. Joe Bernhard said police believe it was not a natural death because of the way the call was received.

"We are not releasing the cause of death yet, but it is not obvious like a gunshot or something," Bernhard said.

The girl was reported to be a runaway. Bernhard confirmed the victim was 16-year-old Morgan Myers.

Employees at the businesses surrounding the motel said they are not surprised. According to the 911 call center, there have been 358 emergency calls to the motel within the last year. Within the last month, there have been 26 calls.

Lauren Bianco, a Farmers Insurance employee, said she sees the police at the motel at least two or three times a week.

"I would say if something is going to happen in Columbia, that would be the first place I would suspect," Bianco said.

No one from the Providence Inn and Suites would comment on the death.

Both Bernhard and Bianco said it is sad to find out a 16-year-old was found dead in the community. Bernhard said Columbia Police Department detectives will do everything they can to follow-up on every lead.
