Ballet and Chamber Musicians Perform Together for First Time
COLUMBIA - Musicians and dancers from Missouri Contemporary Ballet and the Odyssey Chamber Music Series (OCMS) will perform together for the first time ever in a joint show this weekend.
The show is called "Music In Motion" and will take place at the Missouri Theatre Center for the Arts. "Music In Motion" has been planned for approximately one and a half years. The 10 dancers, and 11 musicians have been rehearsing intensively since January.
Artistic Director at Oddyssey Chamber Music Series, Ayako Tsuruta, originally got the idea to celebrate the company's 10th anniversary. She contacted the Missouri Contemporary Ballet, and the joint show was created to celebrate both the 8th anniversary of the Missouri Contemporary Ballet and the 10th anniversary of the Oddyssey Chamber Music Series.
All the artists, dancers and musicians were busy going through the last rehearsals Friday afternoon, a few hours before the premiere of the show at 8 p.m. Director of Operations at the Missouri Contemporary Ballet, Joanne Sandorfi, is looking forward to the premiere.
"The purpose of this show is really to celebrate our community of artists in Columbia. OCMS has been around for a decade now and we have been around for eight seasons, and that is because the community is so supportive of the arts and we are just eternally grateful for that," said Joanne Sandorfi.
The "Music In Motion" show also takes place Saturday at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.
