Bear loose near Fulton homes

FULTON - A small black bear is on the loose near Fulton. It was originally found in a backyard there.

The Fulton Police Department and Callaway County Sheriff's Office searched the area.

They found the bear in a tree outside a house on East Sixth Street. Officers tried to get the bear to come out of the tree using flashlights around 9 p.m., but the bear didn't respond.

After the bear had been shot with a tranquilizer, it finally came out of the tree, but ran away before officers could catch it.

Residents of the area were told to stay inside. Missouri State Highway Patrol then helped officials continue to patrol the area.

There is no further information at this time about whether or not the bear has been found.
