COLUMBIA - The future of the Buddy Pack program in mid-Missouri looks uncertain.

Rising food prices and the increased cost of transporting food have resulted in a Buddy Pack for one child currently costing $180-up from $100 last year.

Buddy Packs each have peanut butter, a juice carton, canned noodles, and other snacks. On Fridays students in need take the packs home for the weekend when there may not be enough food around.

The Food Bank started the Buddy Pack program in 2009. More than 1,500 children in Boone County receive food from the program. It expects to help an additional 2,000 children this year.
