Cardboard Regatta Benefits Food Bank
COLUMBIA - The University of Missouri's College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources (CAFNR) is pairing up with the Food Bank for Central and Northeast Missouri to host a race of carboard boats. The cardboard regatta will happen April 21 at A. Perry Philips Park in south Columbia, and the proceeds will be donated to the food bank.
One team has set up shop in Lizzi and Rocco's Natural Pet Market, and began work today. There are over 20 teams already registered, and the regatta is open to all individuals, families, and organizations. The goal is to bring people together to work on a creative project while raising awareness of the need for food donations in mid-Missouri.
Recent statistics show that one in six mid-Missourians don't have enough to eat, and 25% of children in the mid-Missouri community will experience food insecurity at some point.
The event is part of a one-year campaign by CAFNR to increase food donations to the food bank. Prizes will not only be awarded for speed, but also creativity and the "Titanic Award for the Best Sinking". Local celebrities will be judges in the competition.
