COLUMBIA - Columbia Imagined is holding a public forum Wednesday night at city hall to discuss and vote on 35 improvement goals and objectives. The goals and objectives were created based on the input of more than 300 residents through meetings and surveys.

The forum starts at 6 p.m. and is the final part of the plan's fourth stage. The purpose of the stage was to develop goals and objectives based on what residents value, and how they want the city to grow and develop in the future. Residents will have a chance to review the goals and give feedback on whether or not the goals represent a coherent vision for the city.

The 35 goals are separated into seven categories:

  • Land Use/Growth Management
  • Livable and Sustainable Community
  • Infrastructure
  • Environmental Management
  • Economic Development
  • Intergovernmental Cooperation
  • Mobility, Connectivity and Accessibility

Columbia Imagined is a six stage plan created by the city's Community Development Department. The purpose of the plan is to collect residents' input on creating growth goals for the city.

The department has looked at 20-year growth trends in Columbia housing, and also what the city might look like 20 years from now if it keeps growing at the same rate. Once the fourth stage is complete, the plan establishes a goal-based growth scenario that would represent how residents want the city to grow in the future.

Residents that cannot attend the meeting can contact the department through e-mail, Facebook, and Twitter.
