COLUMBIA - Columbia Public Schools chose Kim Presko to be the principal at their newest development, Battle High School.

Presko, who is currently the principal at Oakland Junior High School, met with her staff earlier this morning to share with them her news.

"Tears - there were lots of tears this morning. But, at the same time, everyone knows this is a good thing for Dr. Presko. We are very happy for her, it will just be sad to see her go," said Presko's secretary of 17 years, Sherry Colwell.

Presko said although she is sad to leave her staff and students at Oakland, she feels very blessed to be given the job at the high school.

"Back in 2005 when talk of a new high school started, that's when I really started thinking that maybe Battle High School would be a good fit for me," said Presko.

Presko feels her position at Battle High School is very appropriate as Muriel Battle herself hired Presko 21 years ago to be a math teacher at West Junior High School.

Presko only worked at West a handful of years before she moved on to Oakland. Presko will officially make the move again, becoming the principal of Battle High School in July of 2012.

Battle will open its doors to students for the 2013 academic school year.
