Columbia Regional Airport Welcomes American Airlines
COLUMBIA - Columbia Regional Airport held a launch party to commemorate American Airlines' first flight out of the airport Thursday afternoon. The launch party included a ribbon cutting, inaugural certificates for passengers, and refreshments.
"This is the very first day and I think a good change is to see the overwhelming response we've gotten from the local community in supporting our services. The flights are full today and they're full for the next few days both in bound and out bound and that's excellent. We couldn't be more pleased," said Senior Manager of Airport Service Development Brett Hooyerink.
Construction and renovation continues at the airport. It includes extensions for both runways.
The airline now offers six flights a day, three in bound and three out bound to Chicago O'Hare International Airport and Dallas Fort Worth Airport.
American Airlines and US Airways announced yesterday an $11 million merger between the two companies creating the largest airline inthe world.
