Columbia Students See Rise In On and Off Campus Assaults
COLUMBIA - According to the University of Missouri Police Department, there has been an increase this semester in sexual assault reports on and off campus.
With the most recent reporting of rape at Aspen Heights apartment complex, there have been a total of five sexual assault reports on and off campus since August.
Only two assualt cases have been reported on MU's campus this semester. There are three reports of off campus assaults.
MU students have received over five Clery releases since the beginning of the semester in August.
University of Missouri Police Department Captain Brain Weimer says the MU Police Department does not have any information on the off campus sexual assaults, and passes along the only information they have to students through the Clery releases.
Captain Weimer encourages students to keep safe by staying in groups of 2 or more people, have a cellphone on hand, and to report any suspicious activity.
