COLUMBIA - Columbia Police confirmed Thursday that downtown shooting was gang related and is still an "active investigation."

Police made an arrest Wednesday in connection to the June 15 shooting. In a traffic stop, police arrested 20-year-old Eric Cravens of Columbia at 4:13 p.m. for three counts of 1st Degree Assault and one count of Armed Criminal Action.

Sergeant Joe Bernhard, public relations supervisor of the Columbia Police, said the department is "still working on leads in the case."

The shooting was the first of four shootings within ten days in Columbia. Bernhard does not believe the shootings to be related.

"Historically, in late spring, early summer, our crime--our violent crime--goes up," said Bernhard. "They did have a detective just assigned to that case and he was able to work through the investigation and was finally able to give probable cause to arrest Eric Cravens."

Bernhard said more arrests in the downtown shooting are possible.
