Drivers Frustrated with Hospital Drive Traffic
COLUMBIA - Drivers waited in heavier traffic than usual near the University Hospital Wednesday due the Monk Drive closing in the area. As staff and students arrive in the morning and leave in the afternoon, the stretch of road between Stadium Blvd. and College Ave. is sometimes described as a parking lot.
MU News Bureau associate director Christian Basi said utility construction on the project is on-time and will wrap up September 2. But road repairs over the utility project will take longer.
Cynthia Irsik, an office administrator on campus, said the traffic delays have been a real problem for staff and students trying to get to and from the University Hospital. She said she was stopped in traffic for around an hour on Monday.
MU Police said they are dealing with the traffic as well as they can and asking drivers to be patient and to use caution when driving in the area. Campus Facilities has sent out emails to staff and student informing them of construction and suggested alternative routes.
