Elk Lodge Event
COLUMBIA- The holidays are still a few months away, but you can get a head start on gifts starting Thursday.
Just Between Friends (JBF), a children's consignment event, starts at the Elks Lodge. It allows people to sell children’s clothes, books, and games.
Families can shop for thousands of named brand items at 50-90% off retail price.
Just Between Friends has been around since 1997, but Nichole Clark and Casey Elliot purchased the Columbia franchise back in May.
“Casey and I have done a lot of garage sales together,” Clark said. “We have a good system down and this was just the next crazy logical step for us.”
The two spent the summer taking classes and preparing for the event.
“There’s been a lot to do,” Elliot said. “The last couple weeks have been the final push getting people in to help, getting last minute advertising and just getting everything set.”
Besides being garage sale addicts, Clark and Elliot received their items from local families who signed as cosigners. The donators could tag and price their own items and earn between 60-70% of the sales.
“Everybody selling here this weekend are local families,” Clark said. “Big CEO’s are not benefiting from this and all the money is going back to the community.”
The women think this is a great way for people in Columbia to have what they call a "debt-free holiday." Shoppers can also challenge the store on the price of any retail item.
Elliot is most excited to show the community what JBF has put together.
“We can actually put actions to our words of being a benefit and a blessing,” Elliot said. “It’ll be really neat to see it go from the planning stages and on paper to it actually happening.”
JBF expects hundreds of people during the weekend and hopes that number will jump into the thousands.
“I’m just so excited that it’s here and we are able to give back to the community and serve those who we live and work with,” Clark said.
At the end of the event, all unsold and market items are donated to the City of Refuge.
The presale begins at 12:30 Thursday and will be open to the public at 5 p.m. Admission is two dollars to the public.
On Friday, admission is free to the public all day and family fun night will take place from 5-7 p.m. The event will conclude on Saturday from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. where everything will be half price.
