COLUMBIA –Family Fun Fest encouraged getting outdoors and men’s health Wednesday night.

The theme this month was explore outdoors, where they focused mainly on general activities people can do outside and things to do with animals.

The Operation Specialist of Columbia Parks and Recreation, Cassie Dins, said the Family Fun Fest will be a combination of general fun and educational activities.

“We’ll have different businesses and different booths on site. Some of them are more focused on just fun. You know, we’ll have a face painter and a balloon artist and things like that. Some of them are more educational like the Missouri Department of Conservation or Raptor Rehab, they’ll be going to kind of share more informational things about what they do," Dins said.

Dins said the Family Fun Fest would also have a lot of sponsors to come out to help with the event.

“This month Epoch Men’s Health is coming on to celebrate both explore outdoors and its men’s health month. They kind of naturally tie in, so they’re going to be bringing out some special attractions relating to manly things,” Dins said.

Family Fun Fest is held every third Wednesday of each month with a different theme.

Dins said the themes have been around for years but they come from things that children normally do.

“They kind of mesh with things that are going on in the community and things that interest kids and things that we have a lot of in the community,” Dins said.

Dins said her goal is to create a sense of community because there are so many businesses and communities represented and it shows a real variety of everything the community has to offer.
