Family Safe After Search and Rescue at Rockbridge State Park
COLUMBIA - A 12 and 16 year old and their grandfather are safe after getting caught in a storm while hiking at the Rockbridge Memorial State Park.
Officials said they sent a search and rescue crew to the park after they received a call from the father of the kids Thursday afternoon.
The pouring rain caused the creek in the park to overflow, trapping the three on one side of the water. They also lost cellular phone service and weren't able call for help.
It took about two hours for rescuers to get to the three and lead them out an alternate way.
