Fans Brave Rain to Line Up for College Gameday
COLUMBIA -- Despite the rain, fans are lining up outside Mizzou Arena to obtain a good spot for ESPN's College GameDay. It rained for most of the day on Friday, but it did not deter more people from camping out.
"Despite the bad weather it is definitely worth it," said fan Austin Tinnes. "It is Missouri vs. Kansas so the weather doesn't matter."
Tinnes was part of a group of 17 people who camped out. Tinnes and the others occupied two tents. Their shelter was one of more than 60 outside Mizzou Arena on Friday afternoon.
Tinnes' group was not prepared for the rain.
"We actually have to go to Wal Mart and pick up a couple of tarps and bring them back to try to cover stuff up," said Jude Ogo, a member of Tinnes' group.
A few minutes after Ogo spoke to KOMU he and another member of the group began to place tarps over their tents.
The group had been waiting outside since 3:30 P.M. Wednesday afternoon. Before the rain came, they often passed the time by interacting with others outside and dancing, but the rain forced them to stay inside their tents.
"Today in the rain we've been playing cards, messing around on the iPad, and doing other stuff," said Matt Magana, another group member.
The crew for College GameDay began to set up on Norm Stewart Court at 3 P.M. on Friday. Doors for College GameDay open at 7 A.M. on Saturday.
