Former Tiger Wins Cy Young Award
DETROIT - Former Missouri Tiger star Max Scherzer is the American League Cy Young award winner. Scherzer earns the honor after going 21-3 with a 2.90 earned run average.
The 29-year-old Scherzer led the majors with those 21 wins, and finished second in strikeouts with 240. Scherzer started the all star game for the American League, and led the Tigers to the American League Central Divsion championship.
In games Scherzer started during the regular seson, the Tigers had a 25-7 record. They were just 68-62 in the rest of their regular season games.
Scherzer received 28 of 30 first place votes. He is the first former Missouri Tiger to win the American League Cy Young Award. Yu Darvish of Texas and Kasashi Iwakuma of Seattle finished second and third respecitvely in the American League Cy Young voting.
