COLUMBIA - Columbia Fourth Ward City Councilman Daryl Dudley was issued a citation on suspicion of selling alcohol to a minor Tuesday.

Dudley manages the Hy-Vee convenience store on West Broadway at Broadfield drive. The citation was the result of a compliance check at the Hy-Vee on West Broadway. The Columbia Police Department conducted the check by sending a minor, supervised by a plainclothes officer, into the store to purchase alcohol using his or her real identification card.

The Columbia Police Department conducts compliance checks 12-15 times a year. The checks are grant-funded by the Missouri Department of Public Safety.

Dudley was elected to the council in 2010. According to the city charter, a council member's seat could be vacated if that member is "convicted of a crime involving moral turpitude." The Columbia prosecutor's office said that if charged and found guilty, Dudley would have to pay a fine.
