Habitat for Humanity
JEFFERSON CITY - The River City Habitat for Humanity had a blessing at the site of its 70th rehab project Satuday. Habitat will build four homes over the winter. Volunteers told KOMU 8 they enjoy helping Habitat around the holidays.
River City Habitat for Humanity executive director Kerry Smith said the holidays are an important time to take stock of the "need that still exists" in the community.
Rehab projects are renovations on existing homes and usually cost around $100,000 to build, according to Smith. The money for River City rehab projects comes from Jefferscon City donors and local businesses.
The mother of four moving into the home came to the blessing to thank the volunteers for their help. She expects to be able to move into her new home next summer. She will receive an interest-free mortgage on her home from Habitat.
