Hickman Linebacker Recovering from Freshman Year Injury
COLUMBIA - It's senior linebacker Shea Tindall's second week back at practice as he prepares for the providence bowl. This year is special for Tindall not just because it's his last, but because he has some time to make up for.
"My freshman year, it was about 7 games into the season it was really late, we were playing Timberland, we were on the kick off, some guy came up and hit me on the side of the knee and it popped" said Shae Tindall.
The result? A torn acl injury that kept him out from the rest of his freshman season to the off-season of his sophomore year. After a long recovery, returning for his junior season tindall entered the providence bowl game against the bruins only to experience déjà vu... a second tear in his ACL."
None of us could believe it, i mean Shea couldn't believe it, and he was really down and it's been a long fight mentally to come back." said Arnel Monroe, Hickman football coach.
"I was a little worried cause we weren't very deep in lb and so some younger guys would step up and play but no one can replace Shea" said Jeff Treadway, Hickman Sr. defensive end. Although Tindall didn't see the field for the rest of the season, he still acted as a team leader.
"I was really quiet on the sideline and loud on the field but that switched i was loud on sideline "
"Whenever we were at games he would help the linebackers, tell them what to do, tell them what to fix."
"He was always involved, always supportive of his team."
Tindall considered not returning for his senior season fearing another injury, another disappointing season...but a fellow injured linebacker, j'den cox changed his mind.
"I was just like, one more year give us one more yaer, we'll come back and have the best year ever cause me and shae are like Shaq and Kobe, that's just how it goes," said J'den Cox, Hickman Jr. linebacker. As tindall comes back for his last providence bowl, he looks for some redemption.
"They took me out for the entire year last year, there's no way im gonna not come back and be ruthless."
