J-Turn Repairs Have Sections of US 63 Down to One Lane
COLUMBIA - MoDOT has placed J-Turns all along US 63 to help keep travelers safe and traffic flow more smoothly. But when construction occurs, it is a different story.
Three J-turns between the Turkey Creek overpass and the Boone Femme Creek overpass are currently undergoing pavement repairs. These repairs require the merging lane and another lane to be closed until completed, making this section of the highway only one lane.
MoDOT cautions travelers to drive carefully in roadwork areas.
"We have had a couple of incidents where folks were not paying attention or they were traveling too fast for conditions and we have had a couple of accidents in the Mid-Missouri area." said Communications Manager for MoDOT, Sally Oxenhandler.
MoDOT did a study in conjunction with the University of Missouri showing the effectiveness of J-turns on highway safety.
While J-turns have been proven to make highways safer, MoDOT said people still need to be extra careful when they have repairs.
