JEFFERSON CITY - Captain Bob Cynova with the Jefferson City Police Department said Wednesday that 12 new tornado sirens will be popping up around tpwn. Captain Cynova proposed a plan to the city council Tuesday to replace 12 out of the city's 15 tornado sirens in the next six to nine months.

The project is expected to cost $400,000. $360,000 will go toward sirens. The remaining $40,000 will go for a new phone alert system that could be up and running in a few weeks. Cynova said the current tornado sirens are about 30-45 years old and finding parts for them is nearly impossible. Some new features of the newer sirens include louder decibels, voice capability, self analyzation and the ability to work during power outages.
