Lightning strike starts house fire
COLUMBIA - Boone County firefighters responded to a house fire that started from a lightning strike Tuesday around noon at the 4500 block on North Route E.
Chief Gale Blomenkamp said the homeowners were in the house when they heard the lightning.
He said they called about ten minutes after they saw smoke and flames coming from the attic.
Blomenkamp said the fire was put out in ten minutes, and the house suffered from minimal damages.
"This is spring time so we're going to have these thunderstorms rolling through quite often," Blomenkamp said. "When people believe that maybe their home has been struck by lightning, I encourage them to call 911 immediately."
There were no injuries.
