Lincoln University students rally for young voters
JEFFERSON CITY - Students and faculty at Lincoln University urged people to register to vote for the upcoming November election Thursday.
The Lincoln University Chapter of the Missouri Association for Social Welfare invited Reverend Dr. Vernon Howard to rally students and residents to vote.
Howard is the Executive Vice President of Southern Christian Leadership Conference and is an advocate for youth voting and social justice.
Howard was one of the protesters arrested at the May 6 rally in the Missouri Senate Gallery during a discussion about expanding Medicaid, and he has continued to encourage people to speak up for their rights.
Howard said there are three ways to to make change: litigation, legislation and mobilization.
After the rally, organizers invited students and other attendees to the registration table where people could register them to vote.
Another voting rally will be held on October 8, which is the last day to register and be allowed to vote in the November 4 election.
