Local Companies Looking to Hire Veterans

JEFFERSON CITY - Veterans and their family members visited with local employers at the "Hire Our Heroes" job fair Tuesday.

The event was one of 400 "Hire Our Heroes" events across the nation this year. Deputy Director of Events Kathryn Poynton said there were more than 50 businesses at the local fair, all looking to fill a variety of positions. 

"All of our employers that are here have current immediate openings that they're looking to fill and they're looking to fill it with veterans or military spouses," Poynton said, "We have everything from truck driving to cooperate America to banks to insurance to retail to government type jobs, so its really an array of different types of employers and everyone of them is looking."

The goal of "Hire Our Heroes" is to help veterans and military spouses find meaningful employment in their communities. 

The job fair was the first "Hire Our Heroes" job fair in Jefferson City since last year.
