COLUMBIA - Parents looking to get their kids outside the house during winter break can take advantage of local organizations aimed at keeping children active.

The Activity and Recreation Center (ARC) is offering a School's Out Holiday Camp for kindergarten through fifth grade students. The camp is $45 and is open December 22, 23, 29 and 30. Lunch is not provided to the children. Also, the pool is operating on extended hours and various classes are open.

One parent, Charissa Consiglio, said she will use the ARC as a way to keep her children occupied.

"We plan on coming back to the ARC to swim and to do their fitness classes," Consiglio said. "If the weather gets nicer, then we will probably go outside and run around. And maybe go to some of the parks here in town."

The ARC is open 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.
