Low Voter Turnout
JEFFERSON CITY - The City of Jefferson held a special election Tuesday from 6am to 7pm to sustain or end the half-cent capital improvement tax. This is the fifth time in 25 years that citizens voted on the issue.
Tuesday's voter turnout was exceptionally low, said Cole County Clerk Marvin Register. Register said he is disappointed when there is low voter turnout. He said even though it doesn't sound like much, the half-cent tax adds up.
KOMU visited the polling place at CERF to check their voting numbers. Polling officials said they have about 1,800 registered at their polling place. On a normal election, they see 1,100 to 800. When KOMU visited today around noon, only 58 people had voted.
