Memorial Service for Bus Crash Victim
COLUMBIA- Friends and MU faculty gathered at a memorial service Friday night on MU's campus to honor a graduate student killed in a bus crash Thursday. The Culture Association of India hosted the service in remembrance of Aditi Avhad.
About 75 people attended the service. Friends of Aditi remember her for her smile, her dedication to her school work and her love for cooking.
"Whenever I meet her, whenever, whatever might be the situation she's the one who creates an environment and atmosphere in which you know there's always laughter, joy, and I mean I seriously do miss her a lot," the President of the culture association Nikhil Tindal said.
Aditi was traveling with her mother and father from Chicago when the bus crashed. The culture association is working with MU to obtain a visa for Aditi's brother to come from India to America. MU's International Center contacted her brother. He sent a representative from the center a statement to read at the memorial.
"My parents would have come directly to Mizzou, but she insisted they meet her in Chicago so that they can get help carrying all the bags filled with goodies that they bought for her. I had even smuggled her favorite goodies in her luggage," her brother said.
A faculty advisor for the culutre association said Aditi's mother suffered injuries to her spinal cord during the crash. She went into surgery Friday night.
The international center will post information on its website with details about a fund to assist Aditi's family.
