Missouri Deer Classic Attracts Thousands
COLUMBIA - Thousands of people headed to the Missouri Deer Classic at the Boone County fairgrounds Saturday.
The Classic is in its 28th year and is the largest outdoor expo in Missouri. The expo features around 100 different vendors. The director of the expo says they've worked hard to have more family-friendly activities and booths.
"We've really tried to welcome families to come in and make it a fun environment," Joseph Pendergrass, the director of the Missouri Deer Classic, said. "We have the summer sausage eating contest in that the proceeds of that will go toward the Boone County food pantry. We have our best beard contest at the Missouri Deer Classic and the funds from that will go toward cancer research."
The expo also features an archery range where hunters can test their accuracy and a smaller one for children. Pendergrass said the deer classic also added a gun exposition this year and expects a big jump in attendance because of the addition.
Last year, Pendergrass says the expo attracted 7,000 people, but he's expecting closer to 10,000 this year. The classic is open both Saturday and Sunday.
