MIssouri Football Season Opener on Saturday at Faurot Field
COLUMBIA -- The Mizzou Football team opens it's season on Saturday morning against Miami, Ohio.
The Redhawks Don Treadwell is head coaching his first college game, while Mizzou's Gary Pinkel is entering his 11th season.
Missouri returns 17 starters from last season, but a couple of them, wide receiver Jerrell Jackson and defensive back Kip Edwards are listed as doubtful with injuries. Despite the experience, plenty of Tigers will step on the field for the first time in their college football careers.
"There's gonna be 60,000 people out there, but the game is still the game you've been playing all your life for most guys," said senior safety Kenji Jackson, "so I mean go out there with confidence and believe in yourself and you'll be fine.
Junior defensive lineman Sheldon Richardson said, "First run out there and look around and theres 70,000 fans...it's here, it's time now, it's time for me to come on, and come with it like my dad said, so he tells me to come on with it, it's time."
"It's definitely an emotional time. I think when you just become absorbed in the process I really don't have any time to think about it so I'm really just thinking about preparing for their defense and getting the coverages down." Senior wide receiver Wes Kemp said.
