Mizzou fans react to second SEC East Championship

COLUMBIA - You didn't need a ticket inside Memorial Stadium to tell how the Tigers were doing.

Missouri pulled out a 21-14 win against Arkansas in the Battle Line Rivalry, sending the Tigers to the SEC Championship for the second straight year.

"I got to tell you we were a little worried in the first half because Missouri kind of shot themselves in the foot a couple of times but came back strong and found a way to win," season ticket holder Phil Davidson said. "They are a great group of kids, they never stop. Their motors are nonstop."

Mizzou was down 14-6 entering the second half and scored 15 unanswered points in the fourth quarter. Part of the reason for the victory was the defense.

"I think this defense, playing for the University of Missouri this year, may be the best defense we have ever had," Davidson said. "I think defense wins a lot of games and I think Alabama or whoever we face is going to be in for a rough slate."

Davidson said he did not know if he would go to the SEC Championship game in Atlanta, but when he said that all of his friends yelled at him and told him he was going.

"I guess I am going," Davidson responded with a smile.

Although the game inside was fun, others just wanted to be there tailgating, watching and hoping the Tigers pulled out a victory. One tailgate, set up with slow cookers full of chili and a TV, was less than 100 yards from the stadium.

"We have been part of this tailgate all season," Chris King said. "It is a great area, we are right next to Faurot Field, we have a TV going even though we could not get tickets. It has been an amazing experience just watching MU come back and win."

King said he is planning on going to what him and his friends are calling, "Hot-lanta."

The only question now is who Mizzou will play in the championship game.

It all depends on the Alabama-Auburn game on Saturday. If Alabama wins, the Tigers will take on the Crimson Tide.

However, an Alabama loss combined with a Mississippi State win against Ole Miss means the Tigers play the Bulldogs on Dec. 6.
