Mo. Senators Approve Campaign Finance Legislation
JEFFERSON CITY -- Missouri corporations could get more pull in the political process. The senate approved legislation 32-0 that allows any corporation to donate to political action committees. The senate passed this legislation to fix a previous law. The previous campaign finance law did not allow state chartered banks to donate to the PAC's.
In March, a judge ruled that these restrictions violated the constitutional rights of the banks. Along with campaign finance, the new bill also allows political candidates to buy meals and advertising from political committees.
However, the senators made changes from the version of this bill approved by the house, and now the legislation will go back to the house for approval.
