COLUMBIA - MU Alumnus Ty Christian donated a scale model replica of the MLK Memorial in Washington. Christian graduated from MU in 1977 and was a key member of the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial Project Foundation. Christian helped the foundation garner $115 million to go toward the construction of the Martin Luther King statue.

The model is actually Christian's personal model but he decided to give it to the University of Missouri to be put on display. The model, about two feet tall, is scale of the actual monument. It is also made from the same materials.

The presentation also featured speakers from the MU faculty and Larry Wilmore, a correspondent from The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. They spoke about the importance of Martin Luther King, Jr.'s lasting legacies. King's "I Have a Dream" speech was also played at the presentation.

The University of Missouri will display the model in various buildings around campus for the foreseeable future.
