COLUMBIA - The Missouri softball team will faceoff with the Texas Longhorns at University Field this weekend. The fate of the Big 12 Championship rests on the series winner. Games will begin Saturday at 2 p.m. and continue Sunday at noon.
Mizzou, ranked eighth in the nation for the first time since February, enters the games with a record of 46-2 overall and 11-2 in the conference. The Tigers come in just one game behind No.3 Texas, currently 44-6 overall and 13-2 in league play.
Besides the battle for the Big 12, the game this weekend will feature the two best pitching staffs in the nation. The Tigers lead all NCAA Division I softball teams with a team earned run average of 1.24. The Longhorns, second in the nation, have a squad ERA of 1.27.
"People keep overlooking us and underestimating us and I think a lot of people are gonna expect Texas to come away with the championship but we're gonna go in there and show them what we're all about," Nicole Hudson,sophomore, said.
With Mother's Day approaching, there will be various contests and promotions running through the weekend, including free admission for all moms on Sunday with the purchase of one youth ticket. New men's basketball head coach Frank Haith will be throwing out the first pitch at Sunday's game.
