Multi-million dollar bridge project continues on schedule
COLUMBIA – The Columbia I-70 Bridges Project is continuing on schedule and next on the agenda is for the new bridge at Business Loop to slide into place.
MoDOT expects the new bridge to be set on Monday as long as the weather doesn't get in the way.
"It's going to take more than a light rain to delay this project," MoDOT Assistant District Engineer Travis Koestner said.
Koestner said crews should begin sliding the bridge in place around 7 or 8 in the morning. He expects the process to be done around 2 in the afternoon.
“The goal is to minimize traffic,” he said. “The other two bridges took about four hours. This bridge is a little larger, so it may take slightly longer.”
Koestner said businesses in the area are happy the project is moving along as scheduled.
“Of course it’s inconvenient for them, but everybody has been understanding,” he said. “They know when the project is done, it will be better for them.”
Koestner said MoDOT expects the multi-million dollar bridges project to be completed by October 1, 2016.
