COLUMBIA – There are about 14 million single parents in the U.S. and Columbia resident Britteny Johnson is one of them.

As she reflected on National Single Parent Day she said, “The hardest part of motherhood is that it gives you fears that you didn’t know you were going to have.”

Even though single parenthood is not easy, she said, her daughter Payton is always worth it.

“We fit perfect together. She’s my best friend.”

Johnson said she knows there are resources available for single parents, but doesn’t use them unless absolutely necessary.

“I don’t want to sound prideful,” she said. “I just know that there people who need those services a lot more than I do."

Here is a list of resources that may benefit single parents:

Johnson said she thinks these resources are beneficial to the single parent community.

“If I can take care of things for her without using resources that could be available to someone else, then I try to do that."
