COLUMBIA - Drivers in downtown Columbia will need to pay parking meters until later in the evening, thanks to a vote by the city council Monday.

Starting January 1, downtown on-street parking meter payments will be enforced from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m.

Drivers currently are required to pay meters from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m.

Columbia Public Works Department Spokesperson Steven Sapp told KOMU 8 News that moving enforcement times to later in the day makes more sense, because most businesses are not even open when the current enforcement time begins at 8 a.m.
