One Injured in Five-Car Accident on Westbound 70

COLUMBIA - A five-car accident on westbound Highway 70 near exit 124 backed up traffic Wednesday afternoon.

Police called the accident a chain reacion, saying it started when a silver sedan merged from the driving lane into the passing line and clipped a gold sedan. The gold sedan spun around on the highway after being hit. A semi truck hit the right side guard rail to avoid the spinning car. Then, an antique car ran into the back of the semi truck, and finally, a black SUV hit the back of the antique car.

The driver of the 1950's car is in the hospital with minor cuts and bruises.

The accident put traffic at a standstill between exits 128 and 124 in Columbia. The four-mile stretch took about 15 minutes to navigate due to the crash.
