One non-profit receives Missouri accreditation

COLUMBIA - The Missouri Accreditation of Programs for Children and Youth Friday awarded a Certificate of Accreditation to Mary Lee Johnston Community Learning Center. This certificate is granted to quality programs that offer developmentally appropriate experiences in an environment conducive to children flourishing intellectually, emotionally, socially, and physically. Every three years youth programs must be re-apply for re-accreditation. Mary Lee Johnston Community Center has been accredited for decades.

"We are one of the eight centers for children that have been accredited, in the city of Columbia and the only non profit accredited," Mary Lee Johnston Community Learning Center Executive director, Gay Litteken said. 

The Mary Lee Johnston Community Learning Center ranges in the development of children from as early as six weeks old to six years of age. Tuition is based upon the parent/parents level of income so that education may be affordable for anyone.

"For us this means we're pursuing our mission to provide quality care for families no matter what their socioeconomic level, Litteken said.

The Missouri Accreditation of Programs for Children and Youth were unable to share any records with us regarding the process of Mary Lee Johnston Community Learning Center to reach accreditation.
