COLUMBIA-After months of driving on shaky ground, Columbia Parks and Recreation is ready to smooth out the kinks, or potholes, at the Twin Lakes Recreation Area.

Construction is set to begin Wednesday. At that time, the main entrance off Chapel Hill Road will close during weekdays from 7:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. for road repair. The road will open up during the evening and weekends. But, if you still want to access the rec area or dog park during the day, the entrances located on the MKT Trail and County House Trails will remain open.

Though the alternate entrances may pose an inconvenience for some park goers, two dog owners  welcome the construction, saying the construction is a long time coming.

"There are some potholes that, if you weren't paying attention you could completely -- you'd need an entirely new tire or like, tire rotation," park user Sarah Bukard said.

"I think that everyone that comes here is getting kind of tired of bobbing and weaving through the street," park user Paul Bien-Aime said.

"It'll be an inconvenience, but the fact that this park is even offered is just so amazing. Nowhere else in Missouri have I found a park like this," Bukard said.

"People that come here are pretty dedicated to their pets so I don't think it'll really stop anybody from really coming in," Bien-Aime said.

Parks and Rec has not yet released a date for when construction may be complete, but said the road closure is necessary to have a speedy process.
