Proposed Recreational Area at Jay Dix Station
COLUMBIA - Three soccer fields, a basketball court, a playground and a fitness area may be coming to Jay Dix Station.
Today the public got to weigh in with their thoughts on the Columbia Parks and Recreation's project. A handful of students and residents showed up to provide feedback at the project site at the intersection of the MKT Trail and Scott Blvd.
So far, the public is on board. "(Feedback) has been pretty positve," Assistant Park Planner Ryan Atkinson said. "There's not a park in the immediate area so it will give kids a place to play and expand practice fields and things and take a little pressure of across the street when soccer season is going full tilt.
The City is looking to provide the region with a place designed for families and trail travelers.
The $125,000 project is already funded from the park sales tax. Parks and Recreation can use the money starting on October 1, which is the start of the City's fiscal year. If the proposal is passed at the next Parks and Recreation meeting, it will go in front of city council for final approval. If approved by city council, constuction will start as early as spring 2013.
The public will have opportunities to provide feedback when the project goes in front of the Parks and Recreation Commission and city council.
