Protestors Chain Themselves to Dog Cages Outside State Capitol
JEFFERSON CITY - A group of protesters chained themselves to dog kennels Friday morning outside of the state Capitol. The group said they want to raise awareness of the dangers of leaving dogs chained outside.
Protester Melody Whitworth said that the heat and lack of fresh food and water can be extremely dangerous for pets, especially during the summer. The three activists plan to remain chained to the kennels until 5 p.m.
The protest is being put on by the national nonprofit organization Dogs Deserve Better. Whitworth said people in about 15 other states held similar protests Friday.
