RK Gun Show Employee Expects Boost in Show Attendance
BOONE COUNTY - Dealers setting up tables at the RK Gun Show at the Central Missouri Event Center Friday told KOMU 8 News they expect an increase in attendance following a year filled with gun violence.
Dennis Pearson, RK Gun Show manager, estimated a 40 percent boost in attendance. He attributes the expected increase to increased political discussion about gun control following a year filled with gun violence.
When asked if gun control is normally on the minds of attendees to gun shows, Pearson said, "Normally, it's not something people think of. But with events taking place over the past few weeks, I think it will be on people's minds."
Many dealers setting up for the event told KOMU 8 News they attribute high attendance at recent gun shows to the possibility of gun laws soon becoming more strict. It appears as the debate over gun control intensifies, so does the sale of guns.
KOMU 8 News found shortly after the Sandy Hook shooting many gun stores in the Columbia area was wiped clean of the AR 15 semi-automatic gun.
There is no sales tax on guns purchased at shows such as the RK gun show. Additionally, licensed gun dealers require background checks on any person purchasing a gun. Unlicensed dealers are not required to do a background check. However, dealers explained, unlicensed dealers will often bring their customers to a licensed dealer's table to go through an official check before completing the sale.
The event takes place Friday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Tickets are $7 per person each day, or you can purchase a weekend pass for $10.
