RK Gun Show Returns To Boone County
BOONE COUNTY - The travelling RK Gun Show finished its second day in Boone County Saturday. And despite the name, guns weren't the only product sold. Licensed weapon vendors lined up to sell all types of weapons in addition to guns such as brass knuckles, knives and even tasers and stun batons. But naturally, guns were the main focus. Pistols, shotguns and especially semi-automatic rifles such as the AR-15 and AK-47 were featured and bought by eager buyers.
Gun vendor Duane Hungerford, owner of Big D's Gun & Loan LLC in Springfield and one of the only vendors willing to be interviewed, said the shows are an ideal way to fulfill sales quotas as well as customer needs.
"This gives us a chance to take 'em to an area, and each area we got to in the state buys a different type of gun. It's quite unique, so we can buy a good package of guns and bring it in and we know we can sell 'em, if not at this show then the next one," Hungerford said.
The shows are going on in the midst of serious debate on gun control. Gun control proponents are proposing stricter control measures to prevent gun crime and illegal ownership such as universal background checks. Despite concerns by pro-gun proponents about the constitutionality of such measures, Hungerford said he feels that universal background checks won't stop guns from falling into the wrong hands.
"As a matter of fact, its not gonna hurt, unfortunately, anybodoy because its not gonna do anything to help either. Right now, we're a licensed FFL dealer and nobody buys a gun from our table unless they pass a background check", Hungerford said.
The show continues for one more day on Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information on the RK Gun Shows, click here.
