COLUMBIA- Room At The Inn COMO, an interfaith warming shelter, will be open to guests on Christmas Day for the first time in the history for the organization's six-year operation. The warming shelter will be open from 6 p.m. December 24 to 7 a.m. December 26.

Room at the Inn Coordinator, Yvonne Chamberlain explains the decision.

"In Columbia the warming centers are not open on Christmas Day or on New Years Day," Chamberlain said. "So we decided to this year that we will stay open."

The organization rotates host sites between Fairview United Methodist, First Baptist, Missouri United Methodist and Broadway Christian churches.

Broadway Christian Church is currently serving as the host site before the organization moves to United Methodist Church on January 10.

Snacks are available everyday and breakfast, lunch and dinner will be served on Christmas day.

The organization now has 50 cots, to help accommodate more people. Last year's harsh winter caused an increase in people using the warming shelter.

"Really its about keeping them warm and having a place for them to stay if they don't have family in town," Chamberlain said.

Along with providing a safe and warm place to sleep, the organization connects guests to resources such as New Horizons and the Love Seat to assist with other aspects of life.
